ABOUT SSNE
Sustainable Step New England (SSNE) was founded in 1998 by professionals who wanted to address environmental and social challenges with positive systemic solutions. Inspired by the way the Natural Step framework and other tools could help jumpstart initiatives that provided triple bottom line benefits, we have since conducted a wide variety of high-quality consulting projects, speeches, seminars, discussion courses and networking meetings. Through these efforts we have helped many hundreds of people:

  • gain a practical understanding of the sustainability challenge
  • implement solutions tailored to their situations.

How we operate
In keeping with our roots, SSNE provides technical expertise, neutral 3rd party facilitation, and supporting services for organizations helping to regenerate the region's natural and social capital. While we see many destructive activities, our talents are focused on helping those who want to act constructively. We seek --in every interaction with every person-- to demonstrate support for their best efforts, insight, compassion, and recognition that in the end only they can find the best answers for their challenges. Our goal is to make organizations so successful at "doing well by doing good" that others will follow their examples.

As a respected 501c3 not-for-profit, we shepherd collaborations between business, government, municipalities and NGO's on complex problems. Even working internally with privately held companies, we improve projects by enabling participation by stakeholders the firm wouldn't even normally think to include.

Public Education
SSNE's has offered public events ranging from CEO speeches to audiences of 300, to confidential "by invitation only" problem-solving sessions for key decision makers. Our thought-provoking, highly interactive, open-enrollment seminars are typically attended by diverse participants who come with a positive spirit of inquiry and a willingness to support others. Since acting sustainably requires systems thinking, this diversity helps insure deep learning occurs and multi-faceted solutions emerge for all the attendees.
